Just about 6 months ago, we reviewed Treat A Dog‘s PupLounge Memory Foam Orthopedic Dog Bed. You can read our original review here (which we recommend doing before diving in here).
Our biggest complaint with this bed was the fabric, and that has not changed in the 6 months of our dogs sleeping on these beds in our bedroom. We have to very carefully tuck large fleece blankets over each bed, otherwise we are woken up each time they move with the sound of the fabric.
So, I was thrilled when Treat A Dog reached out to me in April and said, “We have listened to your thoughts to help improve the experience for dogs and their owners. That is why we are proud to be launching our bed toppers. We realize the “loudness” of the bed material isn’t ideal, it is made of this material for strength purposes, but introducing the toppers will help to minimize this issue of noise and add comfort.” Score! Fast forward a few more weeks, and our PupLounge Bed Toppers arrived.
I will be honest; I was skeptical about the toppers as soon as I pulled them out of the box. Rather than covering the entire bed, they only cover the center area — not the bolster. Nevertheless, I was grateful that PupLounge sent us these complimentary toppers, and we decided to give them a go. Mama Julep got the cooling topper + fleece topper over it (she gets hot at night) and Beau got the fur topper (he loves to be warm.)
Sure enough, without anything covering the bolsters of the beds, the noise was back. The toppers do improve the “loudness,” but they don’t solve the problem entirely. It’s disappointing that Treat A Dog couldn’t have come up with a better solution. But, I will say that our dogs do seem to like the toppers as they opt for getting right into bed in the evenings now, rather than hopping into our bed. (I’m not sure that’s a good thing or a bad thing — who doesn’t like bedtime dog snuggles?)
So now, our dogs are sleeping on the PupLounge beds with the toppers, but with the fleece blankets still draped round the bolsters.
Overall, the bed toppers didn’t entirely solve the problem that we outlined in our original review, so our 3 star rating stands.
One last note: Treat A Dog also generously sent us one of their PupRug Memory Foam Orthopedic beds, and although it sheds a bit, it’s been a big hit with our dogs. We also like that it looks nice in our living room. Thanks, Treat A Dog!
